The second half of August turned into a true celebration of Hungarian music at the Expo, with artists taking the stage to showcase our heritage from the energy of modern jazz to the elegance of classical sounds.
It all began with the Barabás Lőrinc Quartet, whose trumpet-led ensemble created an easy, improvisational mood full of groove and contemporary jazz. They were followed by György Ferenczi and the 1-tső Pesti Rackák, who brought two concerts packed with power, mixing Hungarian folk songs with rock’n’roll, blues and funk. Their performance combined poetry and modern melodies with such force that the audience responded with long, enthusiastic applause.
Next came the lyrical tones of Ági Szalóki and her band, reimagining Hungarian folk songs in jazz arrangements. Tradition and modernity blended in a special atmosphere, her pure voice and the musicians’ improvisations sending shivers through the crowd. Rising talent Botond Téglás, still a high school student, then impressed everyone with his confident violin performance, proving why he is seen as one of the most promising musicians of his generation.
The marathon continued with János Csík and the Mezzo, who fused folk traditions with the pulse of jazz. Finally, the legendary Csík Band closed the series with an unforgettable double concert, mixing timeless folk melodies with a fresh, modern sound. Their music was celebrated with overwhelming applause, showing how it speaks across generations.
We are proud to share the richness of Hungarian music in so many styles with the Japanese audience.
