Founded by the visionary cimbalom artist Bálint Tárkány-Kovács, Tárkány Trió is on a mission to introduce the world to the unparalleled beauty of Hungarian cimbalom music. The cimbalom, a dulcimer-like instrument, has deep roots in Hungary’s thousand-year-old traditions, serving as a bridge between the musical traditions of the nomadic cultures of the endless Asian Steppe and of the musical heritage of Europe. As the unique torchbearer of this tradition, Tárkány Trió revives the lost sounds of a bygone era with authenticity and artistic mastery.

At every performance, Bálint not only delivers breathtaking cimbalom virtuosity but also shares the history of the instrument and the legendary players of the past, offering audiences an immersive cultural experience. His dedication to preserving Hungarian cimbalom music is evident in the band’s repertoire, which consists of carefully curated pieces gathered from last tradition bearers in Hungary, the Carpathians, and Transylvania—some preserved only in the archives of Hungarian musicologists.

Internationally recognized, Tárkány Trió has earned high praise from Songlines Magazine,
where music critic Simon Broughton hailed their album A Cimbalomprímás as “Hungarian cimbalom playing at its finest.” Unlike many contemporary cimbalom bands that lean toward Balkan fusion, Tárkány Trió stays true to the authentic Hungarian folk repertoire, bringing to life an intricate tapestry of fiery dance tunes, melancholic ballads, and virtuosic improvisations.

Accompanied by Márton Fekete on kontra (viola) and Péter Molnár on double bass, Bálint
Tárkány-Kovács leads the trio with mesmerizing skill, creating a sonic journey that transports
listeners to the heart of Hungarian folk tradition.

For those seeking a true, unfiltered experience of Hungarian cimbalom music—one that resonates with history, passion, and the soul of an ancient culture—Tárkány Trió is simply unparalleled. Experience the timeless magic of the cimbalom with Tárkány Trió!
