Esszencia (“Essence”) is a 10 years old ensemble this year. In its music the folk, classical and virtuoso or improvisational elements are being represented in a unique way. In the Spring of 2023 the ensemble recorded its new album “Átjárások” with new, international members. This album takes an outstanding place in the Hungarian and European music scene as well.

Our aim is to spread the Carpathian-base’s Hungarian based folk and classical music not only in the Hungarian music scene, but in a wider perspective, worldwide, in international concert halls. It is a wonderful journey to see how classical and folk music meet and being one.

In the concert you can hear Transylvania’s extraordinary instrumental music in sync with the Symphony No. 94 by Haydn, but you can listen to Béla Bartók’s music combined with Felvidék’s (Highland in Hungary) traditional folk music. These songs are collected by Bartók, which are completed by Róbert’s compositions for violin and viola duos. In other songs, some of the famous Hungarian poets’ or singer-songwriters’ poems come up as lyrics in kalotaszegi (Transylvanian place) or bodrogközi (Eastern Hungarian place) melodies, such as Krisztián Grecsó’s poem: “Úgy, ahogy az elején”, Eszter Major’s “Határtalan” or András Petruska’s “Csillag”.

We think that the atmosphere of the concerts of Esszencia is exceptional. Its music makes you think, gives you freedom and allows you to free your mind. For its audience, all its concerts are a celebration.
