Mónika Lakatos and the Gipsy Voices

Mónika Lakatos has made the Gipsy Voices come true in order to show an other, fast, pulsating, overwhelmingly vigorous face of the traditional Gipsy music, the way that the audience can get to know the primal power of the polyphonic vocal music in their own purity, on the bases of rhythm instruments. Similar to Romanimo, Mónika’s most important partner in Gipsy Voices as well, is „Mazsi” Mihály Rostás. Mónika would like to show more and more „Gipsy voices” in the band so the „members” of the band are continuously changing around them, so this way almost every concert gives a unique experience.
The Kossuth Prize awarded Mónika Lakatos is the most prestigious and recognised performer of Hungarian Gipsy music all over the world. For the first time as a Gipsy performer in 2020 she won the Womex Award which is mentioned as the Oscar prize of world music.
