At the 2025 Osaka World Expo, one of the key speakers at the Hungarian Pavilion will be the founders and leaders of the Pritzker Prize-winning Japanese architectural firm SANAA, recognized as one of the most prestigious studios in contemporary architecture worldwide. Sejima and Nishizawa and Associates, or simply SANAA, is renowned for designing iconic museums such as the Louvre-Lens Museum in France, the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York, and the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa, which earned them the Golden Lion Award at the Venice Biennale.
At the Osaka World Expo, SANAA’s masters will present their design for the New National Gallery in Budapest’s City Park, a project selected through a prestigious international architectural competition. The new museum will not only be a landmark in contemporary architecture but also one of the most advanced exhibition spaces for Hungarian and international fine arts. It will serve as the new home for the modern collections of the Museum of Fine Arts and the Hungarian National Gallery. The building continues a legacy of over a century that has established the City Park as the cultural heart of Budapest.
During the presentation, the audience will gain firsthand insights into how SANAA’s architectural philosophy shapes 21st-century museum spaces and the key considerations that guided the design of the New National Gallery.
