Hungarian Women Connecting the Cultures of Hungary and Japan
Hungarian female writers and artists will take the stage at the Hungary Pavilion of the Osaka World Expo on May 1. The event highlights women whose work builds cultural bridges between Japan and Hungary through literature, visual arts, and craftswork.
The first part of the program focuses on Hungarian female authors of children’s literature whose works have already been published in Japanese. Under the title Children’s Books by Hungarian Female Writers in Japan, visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about their creative work, experiences with translation, and their views on cultural exchange through a presentation and panel discussion.
In the second part of the event, contemporary Hungarian visual artists will take the spotlight. Visitors will discover how Japanese aesthetics and philosophy have influenced the work of Hungarian female artists and artisans. Ceramic artists and the Hungarian pioneer of traditional Japanese kokeshi dolls will share insights into their creative processes and reflect on how their art weaves together the two cultures.
